GED Social Studies

 PROGRAM DESCRIPTION 

The GED (General Education Diploma) exam in Social Studies assesses the candidate’s knowledge and understanding of a variety of topics related to society, history, politics, and geography. This exam aims to measure the student’s ability to analyze and apply critical thinking to social issues and historical contexts.  World History: 

Questions related to key historical events and developments in different eras and regions, including topics like the Industrial Revolution, World War I and II, independence movements, historical leaders, and social changes.
 

Geography: 

Questions about the location and characteristics of countries, continents, bodies of water, mountains, and other geographical features. It may also include concepts like globalization and worldwide interconnectedness.
  Citizenship and Government:  Concepts on political systems, citizenship, civil rights, civic participation, democracy, electoral processes, and the structure of government in different countries.

  Economics:

  Fundamentals of economics, including concepts of supply and demand, types of economies, natural resources, international trade, and basic personal finance principles.

  Culture and Society: 

Questions related to cultural, social, and anthropological aspects, such as cultural diversity, social movements, changes in gender roles, and the influence of culture on society.

 Civil Rights and Human Rights: 

Concepts of human rights, civil rights movements, racial and gender equality, and related social challenges. Interpretation of Historical Sources:  Analysis of historical documents, maps, charts, and other resources to understand events and trends in their context. Social Reasoning Skills:  Questions that evaluate the student’s ability to analyze social problems, understand different perspectives, and make informed decisions in social and political contexts.
